Help build the future Symbian devices

The Symbian website has been redesigned for the upcoming SEE 2009 Expo, on the main page there’s a link where you can submit and vote for existing ideas. If the idea gets 30 votes (you can vote it down also) it will be submitted to the community manager for appraisal, then he will get back to the idea originator so it can be refined and then it could be a feature or application on future Symbian devices.

The website redesign is very appealing, cartoony and easy to understand, I tried to login so I can vote for some ideas but it didn’t get my Symbian Foundation registration account, so I had to register again.

Facebook application for S40 Handsets

Gadgetarena.com has posted an interesting screenshot of what it seems to be the upcoming Facebook application for the “basic phones” of Nokia, yes the ones with S40 OS.

Nokia has forgotten about the S60v3 users, but maybe they are trying to push S40 sales, there’s new applications for the S60v5 and now they put Facebook on S40? I guess I’m getting too desperate and looking forward on the Maemo 5 devices but it seems Nokia is pushing followers on getting a S60v5 device or Maemo 5.

Ovi Store Updated to 1.05(27)

Maybe this was posted somewhere else but just by luck I decided to go to the Download folder on my E71, re-download the Ovi Store and to my surprise it was updated.

So I thought the Ovi Store updated by itself when you launched it just like “some” Nokia official applications. This is one of the things that annoys me about Nokia, they have a full variety of handsets but also the task of updating every one of them that they forget to let the users know about it or let the device handle it by itself.

Up close video of N900

This device is getting more and more interesting, from this video you can see that the dia-lpad has the letters A to Z like a regular keypad.

I was just browsing youtube for N900 videos.

Nokia N900 with external mouse support #n900

device1Looks like the N900 will have external mouse support (not confirmed yet), this opens a new user base for the mobile Maemo platform. Imagine going to your office and enabling “Desk Mode” on your Maemo to a external keyboard and mouse, excellent for business IMHO.

It was reported as a “bug/enhancement” back in 2007 in the Maemo Bug log:

This is more of an enhancement than a bug. SOFTWARE CHANGES: (changes to the given release version: different kernel, additional packages…) Mostly the X server, probably requires enabling a kernel driver or two. Should probably create a configuration applet for enabling disabling external mouse. Why do this? This enables usage of the platform in a laptop replacement setting. Corporate users who are doing lots of email while travelling, or someone on vacation doing some web work will able to switch to “desk mode” with a mouse and folding keyboard (and ideally something to prop hold the Tablet up closer to eye level.)

Nokia to announce Facebook API at Nokia World 2009

GPS Obsessed posted what appears to be an addon with Facebook for Ovi maps, to me the image below looks like it will be a Facebook application so you can update your status with your GPS location, pretty cool but I was looking forward to a native Symbian application for S60v3 for my E71 and others…
